In late 2003, under the leadership of Rabbi Joseph Korf, Hollywood Chabad founded the Chabad Student Organization at Florida International University (FIU). With a growing Jewish population at FIU and no Jewish activities for the students, Chabad stepped in and started to coordinate Jewish events such as weekly “Lunch and Learn” classes, “Open Torah discussions”, ”Outreach booth”, and “Holiday Events”.

As the Chabad On Campus started to expand its activities, other Chabad Rabbis in the area joined in and together helped to bring a full-time Rabbi to serve the students needs.

In late 2004, Rabbi Levi Friedman was appointed to establish a full-time Chabad at FIU. Rabbi Friedman is a graduate of the Rabbinical College of Greater Miami, and has served on college campuses in the United States. He has also visited Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam and Japan as part of the Central Chabad-Lubavitch Community Outreach Program. Most recently, Rabbi Friedman has served as editor of the acclaimed Annotated Prayer Book Series, a staple in Chabad Houses nationwide, with some 100,000 copies in print.
